The American Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS) in collaboration with Ashoka Archives of Contemporary India is organizing a two-day workshop for Archivists, Curators and Librarians working with South Asian collections with the aim of (1) Building institutional ties for information sharing amongst archivists, curators and librarians of and in South Asia (2) Connecting the scholarly community with the representatives of different resource institutions of and in South Asia. The Workshop will be held on 4th and 5th July 2018.
American Institute of Indian Studies’ national headquarters (22, Sector 32, HUDA Institutional Area, Gurugram, Haryana, India) will be the venue for the Workshop. The AIIS headquarters houses two internationally renowned archives and research centers of photographic and audio-visual collections from the Indian subcontinent: The Center for Art and Archaeology and the Archives and Research Center for Ethnomusicology. Both Centers have been actively engaged with documentation, archiving and dissemination for many decades and possess considerable experience and expertise in the management and dissemination of archival collections. Anyone working with archival, material, art, music, or visual collections of South Asia and would like to share experiences and challenges in preservation and collection management. Applications from curators, archivists and librarians working at institutions in South Asian countries (India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Bhutan) will be given preference.
Those who are working with archives, collections or repositories, or are interested in them are eligible for participation. These could be archives, museums or libraries dealing with documents, images, audio visual recordings. Curators of private or other collections would also be eligible, as would those with a specific interest in these areas.
The workshop has no separate participation fee. The deadline for the applications was January 15th. However, a request can be made on email@example.com for consideration.
All selected workshop participants are required to register for the conference by April 1st 2018. There is no separate fee for the workshop and the conference registration fee includes meals on both the workshop and the conference dates.
